The institute is dedicated in the following fields of conservation, processing and utilization of MAPs:-
- Survey, inventorization, conservation and mass-scale cultivation of valuable medicinal and aromatic plants of Uttarakhand.
- Research on bio-diversity, bio-technology, quality control, value addition and genetic improvement of medicinal and aromatic plants.
- Development of agro-techniques for cultivation and processing of medicinal and aromatic plants and technology transfer to the growers.
- Revitalization of local health traditional and ancient Indian medicinal system, Ayurveda.
- Hunan resource development, extension and dissemination of information related to medicinal and aromatic plants.
- Co-ordination among activities of institutions/departments /NGOs/co-operatives / growers etc engaged in research and development of medicinal and aromatic plants in the state of Uttarakhand.
- To develop linkages by collaborating with Central Government agencies and industries of with other states.
- To advise the State Government in policy matters and decision makings.
Important Policies for Sustainable Development of MAPs
- Registration of MAPs/ farmers/growers.
- Providing free planting material to farmers up to 10 nali land for cultivation.
- Providing 50 % subsidy to the registered farmers/growers on prioritized 26 species.
- Establishment of distillation units for aromatic crops with 95% government assistance.
- Provide training to farmers/entrepreneurs/ traders on cultivation, processing, value addition and trade of MAPs.
- Provide transit permit for cultivated MAPs and help farmers in trade of cultivated MAPs.
- Provide trade platform by organizing awareness programmes ie workshops, seminars, herbal expo within and outside the state.
